吳仲賢是何許人？他是香港政治運動的先行者，他比長毛林國雄更激進、比司徒華勇敢、比特首董建華更洞悉香港的政治形勢。他自六十年代開始致力推動香港的民主運動：從反殖民統治到反共產黨專政、從七九年的民主牆運動以至八九民運，在每一次的鬥爭中他都一馬當先，身體力行。但在香港這樣政治冷感的地方，吳仲賢是注定要失敗的。本片也毫不忌諱地談到他為勢所迫地妥協的一面，包括辦色情雜誌、涉足商場後繼而敗北、以及在國內被囚禁時被迫提供香港異見人仕的資料。九四年他因罹患癌症英年早逝，一生可以「大志未竟」來形容。

　

本片以吳仲賢的好友莫昭如的舞台劇《吳仲賢的故事》為依歸〈此劇曾在許鞍華的《千言萬語》中出現〉，再加上珍貴的歷史片段，與及節錄了當年的文藝青年吳宇森的短片作品《死結》，編織成一個香港民主運動歷史的印記。正如前中國勞工通訊國際總監羅賓•門羅所言：如欲真正了解香港波瀾壯闊的七一大遊行的歷史根源和重要性，就萬萬不能錯過這部引人入勝的電影。

　

Who is Wu Zhong Xian? He is Hong Kong’s first radical activist who devoted his life to fighting against injustice of every sort, from anti-colonialism in the 60’s to Chinese communist oppression in the 80’s. At various points in his life, he had been Marxist, Trotskyite, agitator for Chinese democracy, and even an entrepreneur. In a politically apathetic city like Hong Kong. Wu is perhaps doomed to failure. Later on in his life Wu worked briefly in Playboy, before starting his own ill-fated children!|s magazine. His death from cancer in 1994 marked the end of a turbulent yet ultimately unfulfilled life.

　

This film is based on the stage production of the same name written by Wu's friend and comrade in arms, Mok Chiu Yu. The play was featured in Ann Hui’s political drama “Ordinary Heroes”. Deftly blending stage performance, reenactments and exceptional archival footage, as well as excerpts from former angry young man John Woo!|s rarely seen short, Deadknot, the film is not only a visual delight but also an important record of an idealistic era. As Robin Munro, former director of Human Rights Watch (Hong Kong-China office) commented, “No one seeking to understand the historical origins and significance of the massive (anti-government) protests that took place in Hong Kong on July 1,2003, can afford to miss this fascinating new film.”

《吳仲賢的故事》以親切而不流於歌功頌德的方式，講述了這位在二十世紀末重要的亞洲政運分子的生平事蹟。除了在他的土生地的香港，吳仲賢的名字在外地並不廣為人識。他跟小撮的新左翼、無政府主義者和托派同路人在六十年代末開始，催生和推動了香港剛起步的民權和民主運動。他的友伴之一就是莫昭如。莫在香港回歸前夕於舞台上自導自演了《吳仲賢的故事》──本數碼錄像電影就是據他的舞台劇改編。如欲真正了解明白二○○三年七月一日波瀾壯闊的香港民眾上街反惡法事件（五十多萬人參與了大遊行）的歷史根源和重要性，就萬不能錯過這部引人入勝的電影 。

　

《吳仲賢的故事》以一連串鮮明事件概述了吳仲賢一生的事業：揭開序幕的是香港反殖民統治運動（由吳仲賢和他的同志在60年代末所發動）；跟著是1979年大陸「民主牆運動」，香港左翼分子支援被囚的大陸同志（吳仲賢在1981年初北上支援被囚人士的家屬時被捕，差點被判終身監禁）；最後以1989年六月四日血洗天安門，香港百萬人上街反血腥鎮壓作結（吳仲賢當仁不讓，是支聯會旗手之一）。

《吳仲賢的故事》沒有迴避吳仲賢政治生涯中具爭議性的一面。他不幸在1994年因癌症而英年早逝。事實上，只有真正敬仰他的人才可以不為賢者諱、不為賢者隱，情真意切地將他的功過得失全部展現。在政治上和個人上，吳仲賢都不是聖人，本片真實無隱的講述一個人終身為理想而奮鬥，卻因未能符合同志心目中的「左翼英雄」光輝浪漫形象而最終被背棄。然而，本片所呈現的真相─吳仲賢的風骨─較任何浪漫幻想更為真切動人。
